Designed to meet the demands of modern instrumentation and control systems, the MPE H8/3048 PowerBoard supplies the communications and I/O facilities needed and a powerful CPU to handle complex software. The on-board CAN and Ethernet controllers allow access both to low level plant I/O and to purchase. The board can be used stand-alone or with other boards from MPE’s PowerBoard range.

MPE’s H8/3048 PowerBoard provides all the facilities need for today’s intruments and control systems. These systems require not only the traditional microcontroller facilities of timers, analogue and digital I/O, but also require means to communicate with other instruments and controllers.

MPE’s H8/3048 PowerBoard provides not only a fast modern 32-bit microcontroller with extensive I/O and timing facilities, but also the means to communicate with the outside world.

  • Two multimode serial ports with both asynchronous and synchronous options and RS232 drivers. One port has a smartcard interface option.
  • A CAN fieldbus controller for deterministic real time control. The CAN protocol is not only widely used in cars, but also has the best error checking of any currently available fieldbus, so that is suitable for use in safety critical systems.
  • An Ethernet controller provides communications to standard purchase and workstations as well as other instruments and controllers. The Ethernet controller chosen requires minimal software overhead from the CPU.
  • Standard expansion bus for use with I/O cards from the MPE PowerBoard range, including 4 port serial, opto input, and relay output.
  • Choice of DIN connectors for development, or stacking connectors for low cost “brick” construction during production.
  • Choice of industry standard development tools, including compilers and TCP/IP protocol stacks.
  • Optional kernel in CPU flash containing monitor and UDP/IP Ethernet stack.
